Sunrisers Eastern Cape continued their winning run in the SA20 2024 as they beat Durban Super Giants by five wickets in Match 12 on Saturday, January 20 at Kingsmead, Durban. After opting to bat first, Durban posted a score of 159/7 in their allotted 20 overs courtesy of a brilliant half century from Wiaan Mulder (52 off 29). In reply, Eastern Cape chased down the target in 19.2 overs with a splendid half century from Tristan Stubbs (66 off 37).
Opting to bat first, Durban didn’t get off to a good start as Quinton de Kock (7 off 8) was dismissed cheaply by Daniel Worrall in the second over. His opening partner Matthew Breetzke (35 off 24) looked in good touch as he raced to 35 off 24 balls but his innings was cut short by Simon Harmer who trapped him in front of the stumps.

Following his dismissal, JJ Smuts (9 off 11) and Marcus Stoinis (1 off 9) failed to get going leaving Durban on 81/4 after 11 overs. A 61-run stand off 39 balls between Wiaan Mulder (52 off 29) and Dwaine Pretorious (23 off 21) helped their side finish on 159/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen also made a good contribution of 31 (17) while Simon Harmer (4/18) was the pick of the bowlers for Sunrisers.
In the second innings, they lost their opener Dawid Malan (2 off 8) in the third over itself while Tom Abell (1 off 1) got involved in an unfortunate run out to leave his side on 19/2 after 4.2 overs. Jordan Herman (25 off 26) also failed to get going leaving his side on 41/3 after 7.2 overs.
Tristan Stubbs and Marco Jansen take Sunrisers home
After three early blows, Tristan Stubbs and Aiden Markram (38 off 29) stabilized the innings with their 56-run stand off 42 balls. However, Durban further made a comeback as Stoinis (2/27) got rid of Markram and Kruger (0 off 1) on back-to-back deliveries which left Sunrisers reeling at 97/5 after 14.3 overs.

Despite losing two quick wickets, Stubbs (66* off 37) continued to bat positively and helped his side get over the line getting involved in an unbeaten 66*-run stand off 29 balls with Marco Jansen (24* off 14). As a result, Sunrisers won the match by five wickets and registered their second consecutive win of the season.

Tristan Stubbs played like someone with 10 years of international experience who last week announced his international retirement.

A good spin basher, not afraid to play ramp shots. Proper finisher. #DSGvSEC #SA20
DC shouldn't fall prey to the fallacy of preferring their most expensive players. Stubbs is the better player and will add more balance to the team than Brooks. It's just his misfortune the IPL auction took place before the SA20 and his prior form wasn't impressive. Playing Brook
