Australia’s batting superstar Travis Head was sold for INR 6.80 Crore to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the IPL 2024 mini-auction on Tuesday, December 19 at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. Ahead of the auction, Head was one of the most talked about overseas players owing to his recent form. Notably, the southpaw scored sensational hundreds in the World Test Championship 2023 final and ODI World Cup 2023 final against India helping his side lift both titles.
The 29-year-old started at a base price of INR 2 Crore and SRH immediately showed interest in the batter. However, they faced tough competition from the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who were also interested in acquiring him which led to a bidding war between the two franchises.

Great Buy#sunrisershyderabad @SunRisers
That Rovman Powell got a bigger bid than Travis Head, clearly points at the franchises’ focus on middle and lower middle order batters rather than top order guys.#iplauction2024
