Twitter Reactions: Suryakumar Yadav-Nehal Wadhera propel MI to brilliant seven-wicket win over RCB
Mumbai Indians defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets in match 54 of the IPL 2023.
In the 54th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, five-time champions Mumbai Indians took on the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, May 9. Coming in to bat first, the visitors got off to the worst of starts as Virat Kohli was sent back to the pavilion for just one run.
After Anuj Rawat failed to impress as well, Glenn Maxwell came in to bat and played an explosive knock alongside skipper Faf du Plessis. Maxwell scored 68 runs in 33 deliveries, with du Plessis amassing 65 runs in 41 balls. Furthermore, after Dinesh Karthik’s late push of 30 runs in 18 balls, Bangalore posted 199 runs on the board after the first innings.
Jason Behrendorff was the highest wicket-taker for Mumbai in the first innings; the 33-year-old took three wickets and conceded 36 runs. Furthermore, Cameron Green, Chris Jordan, and Kumar Kartikeya took one wicket each.
Suryakumar Yadav’s blitzkrieg leads MI to an emphatic win
Coming in to chase the target, skipper Rohit Sharma’s horrid season continued, as the veteran Indian batter only managed to score seven runs before he was sent back to the pavilion. Ishan Kishan looked to be in good touch; the 24-year-old scored 42 runs in 21 balls. After his dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera played resilient knocks to propel their side to a win.
Suryakumar scored 83 runs in just 35 deliveries, and his explosive innings were crucial to Mumbai's winning the game. Nehal Wadhera completed his half-century off the last ball of the game as well. The 22-year-old scored 52* runs in 34 deliveries.
The bowling attack of Bangalore had a game to forget; only Wanindu Hasaranga and Vijaykumar Vyshak managed to take wickets as they took two wickets each. However, it was to no avail as Mumbai comfortably chased the target of 200 runs and won the game by six wickets.
After the win, Mumbai made a big jump in the IPL points table, as they now sit in third place in the standings with 12 points in 11 games. On the other hand, Bangalore find themselves in fifth place with 10 points from 11 games.
