Twitter Reactions: Suryakumar Yadav ton propels Mumbai Indians to massive 218 against Gujarat Titans
Suryakumar smashed an unbeaten 103 off just 49 balls to help MI score 218/5.
The 57th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the five-time champions Mumbai Indians and the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, May 12.
Coming in to bat first after losing the toss, Mumbai Indians got off to a good start to the game as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan played explosive knocks. Rohit amassed 29 runs in 18 balls, whereas Kishan scored 31 runs in 20 balls. However, it was the knock of star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav that was crucial for the five-time champions.
Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 103 runs in just 49 deliveries, smashing 11 fours and six sixes. His performance helped the five-time champions notch up 218 runs on the board after the first innings for Gujarat to chase.
Furthermore, Nehal Wadhera scored 15 runs in seven balls, and Vishnu Vinod amassed 30 runs in 20 balls; Rashid Khan put in a sensational performance with the ball in the first innings. The ace Afghanistan spinner took four wickets and conceded 30 runs in the four overs he bowled. Mohit Sharma was the only other bowler who managed to take any wickets for Gujarat, taking one wicket and conceding 43 runs in four overs.
MI look to seal playoff spot in the IPL 2023
After notching up 218, the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai would look to do their best to limit Gujarat and hinder their run chase to register their seventh win of the IPL 2023. Currently, Mumbai find themselves in fourth place in the IPL points table with 12 points in 11 matches so far.
They would be keen on winning the game at Wankhede Stadium to make a stronger case for playoff qualification in the tournament. On the other hand, Gujarat are in a relatively comfortable position in the standings. The defending champions sit atop the points table with 16 points in 11 matches.
