Twitter Reactions: Tammy Beaumont’s double ton keeps England in the hunt as Australia continue to lead on Day 3 of Women’s Ashes

Australia took a lead of 92 runs after England concluded their innings with a score of 463 runs on Day 3, at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Saturday, June 24. Notably, the Three Lions concluded with a score of 218 runs, trailing by 255 runs at the close of Day 2.

At the start of Day 3, Tammy Beaumont maintained her fine form with the bat, as comfortably got the runs for her side in the second innings. In addition to this, she remained solid on the crease despite wickets falling at regular intervals.

Cracking 27 boundaries, the opener notched up her maiden double-century shortly after the Tea break. With this, Beaumont became the first Englishwoman to smash a double ton in the history of the Women's Ashes. Courtesy of magnificent innings by the opener, England posted 463 runs on the board, falling just 10 short of Australia’s 473.

Nat Sciver-Brunt added 78 runs off 111 balls which featured 12 fours whereas, Danni Wyatt scored a breezy 49-ball 44. Meanwhile, Ashleigh Gardner recorded a four-wicket haul, which also included the prized scalp of Beaumont to wrap up the innings. Tahlia McGrath added three scalps whereas Ellyse Perry, Annabel Sutherland, and Darcie Brown got one wicket apiece.

With a 10-run lead, the Aussies got off to a quick start, as the opening pair of Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield swiftly hit the ground running to have a solid lead at the close of the day’s play. Maintaining a run rate of over 4.50 for the vast majority of the innings, Mooney and Litchfield kept the innings steady for the Aussies. 

While Mooney cracked five boundaries in her unbeaten innings of 33 runs, debutant Litchfield added 41 runs off 55 balls which featured seven boundaries. At the close of Day 3, Australia concluded with a score of 82 runs, maintaining a lead of 92 runs.
