Bangladesh and South Africa are squaring off against one another in the second Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, in Chattogram. On Day 2 of the Test, South Africa continued their bulldozing batting display and eventually declared on 575/6 after playing a chunk of the third session. Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs shared 201 runs between them for the second wicket before Stubbs departed scoring 106 runs off 108 balls.
Tony joined hands with David Bedingham to stitch 116 runs partnership for the third wicket as the latter was cleaned up by Taijul Islam for 59 off 78. Tony followed suit after notching up his maiden Test ton, scoring a brilliant 177 off 269 balls laced with 12 boundaries and four maximums. Previous games Player of the Match, Kyle Verreynne was caught plumb in front of the wicket by Taijul and he departed for a three ball duck.
Then came the pair of Wiaan Mulder and Senuran Muthusamy. The duo of the right-hand and left-hand combination added an unbeaten 152 runs for the seventh wicket after Ryan Rickelton was dismissed on 12. Mulder and Senuran remained unbeaten on 105 and 68 runs as the visitors posted a humongous total of 575/6 before declaring.
Bangladesh’s top order collapse trailing massive total
For Bangladesh, it was a toiling day and their bowlers had to fight hard for the wickets. It was a Taijul Islam show altogether in Bangladesh’s counterattack in patches. The left-arm spinner plucked five wickets and bowled a tiresome 52 overs over two days. The only contribution came from Nahid Rana as the pacer picked only on wicket.
When Bangladesh came out to bat, they were dealt with an early blow as Shadman Islam departed on the fifth ball of the innings for a duck. Zakir Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan joy followed him scoring two and 10 runs respectively, and the hosts were reduced to 29.3. Just when the bad light was beckoning, Hasan Mahmud was cleaned up by Keshav Maharaj and at Stumps Bangladesh scored 38/4 and trailed by 537 runs.

I’ve no idea what’s going on with Bangladesh’s top order batting at the moment. One can only assume that they want to finish this match early so they can have an extra rest day before the Afghanistan series. #BANvSA
