Star Australia batter Travis Head extended his purple patch against India as he slammed a breathtaking ton on Day 2 of the third Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) at the iconic Gabba in Brisbane, on Sunday, December 15. Head followed up his scintillating century in the second Test in Adelaide with an equally good if not better knock in the River City.

The flamboyant batter arrived on the crease when the game was hung in the balance. Notably, at one stage, the Australian side were in a spot of bother at 75/3 in the first session. The southpaw rotated strike with ease and also hit boundaries at regular intervals to make the Indian bowlers look insipid. He got to his ninth Test century off just 115 balls as clipped a low full-toss from Jasprit Bumrah through wide mid-on. Head scampered back for three runs to register the landmark.

Interestingly, Travis Head became the first batter to bag a king pair and a century at a venue in the same calendar year. He had failed to get off the mark in both innings of the Gabba Test between Australia and West Indies in January. However, the redemption story turned out to be one to remember for the 30-year-old.

The southpaw smashed 13 boundaries to get to his landmark. The pitch had eased out considerably after the first hour on Sunday. However, some balls did go past the edges while others bounced alarmingly off a good length. Head had answers to all the challenging deliveries as he fought fire with fire and rattled the Indian bowlers.

Travis Head formed a brilliant partnership of 159 runs off 224 balls with Steve Smith, who also scored a sedate half-century. Both players remained unbeaten at Tea on Day 2 and will look to extend Australia's dominance in the Test match in the final session. The hosts have got themselves into a commanding position at 234/3 and India will have to fight back strongly in the second session before the game begins to get away from them further.
