India’s winning juggernaut continued in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they beat England by 100 runs on Sunday, October 29 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. After being put in to bat first, India posted a fighting total of 229/9 in their allotted 50 overs as captain Rohit Sharma top-scored with 87 (101). England got off to a steady start in their chase as opener Jonny Bairstow (14 off 23) and Dawid Malan (16 off 17) added 30 runs for the first wicket off 29 balls. However, Jasprit Bumrah brought India back into the game by dismissing Maland and Joe Root (0 off 1) off consecutive deliveries.
Mohammed Shami also got into the act as he got the prized scalps of Ben Stokes (0 off 10) and Bairstow to leave England reeling at 39/4 after 9.1 overs. Kuldeep Yadav also joined the party as he outfoxed the England captain Jos Buttler and annihilated his stumps with a vicious delivery.
