Another India-Pakistan clash, another thrilling Sunday on the cards, and another brilliant game put on show by the arch-rivals. India and Pakistan locked horns for the second time in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 and gave all the chills and thrills that the fans and every spectator at the stadium has been waiting for.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first. India had an upper hand entering the encounter as the Men in Blue had managed to defeat Pakistan in a thriller exactly a week ago, August 28, the previous Sunday at the very same venue, but the tables could turn anytime given their history of epic clashes.
India had a fiery start with the bat as openers Rohit Sharma (28 off 16) and KL Rahul started the fireworks from the word go. The duo shared a 54-run opening stand before the skipper was dismissed in the powerplay. However, India achieved a major feat as they posted their highest-ever powerplay total against Pakistan in T20Is, by posting 62/1, thereby breaking a 10-year-old previous record.
Shadab Khan struck on the very next ball after the end of the powerplay as KL Rahul was the next to walk back to the pavilion scoring a 20-ball 28. Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli, the heroes of India’s previous contest against Hong Kong, carried the game thereon. The two were in an attacking mode as they kept finding the gaps and sent the ball for boundaries, but Yadav was not able to repeat his heroics and walked back scoring just 13 off 10 deliveries.
Virat Kohli leads India's way with a record-breaking innings
Rishabh Pant was not much impactful with the bat and was dismissed for a low score by Shadab Khan, but Virat Kohli impressed everyone with his batting skills. The former India skipper, who had been struggling to find his mojo in the game continued his momentum from the previous game, but India suffered a major blow when Hardik Pandya was dismissed for a two-ball duck.
Kohli stood up to everyone’s expectations and smashed his second consecutive half-century and reached the feat with a brilliant six. But this one against Pakistan was a special one as he created a new record for the most 50+ scores in T20I history. It was a treat to see him play as he added a major chunk of runs to India’s final total before being runout in the final over. He scored 60(44) as the Men in Blue finished their innings scoring 181/7.
Consistent Kohli is back…
