Royal Challengers Bengaluru took on Rajasthan Royals in match 19 of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium stadium in Jaipur on Saturday. RR won the toss and asked the Bengaluru-based franchise to bat first. Openers Virat Kohli and skipper Faf du Plessis looked in great touch as they started dispatching the balls to the boundary regularly. The duo added 53 runs in the powerplay to give the visitors a good start.
But especially Kohli, who has been in brilliant form since the opening game, proved yet again why he is considered one of the modern-day greats. The right-hand batter scored his eighth hundred in the history of the tournament. The Delhi-born hit all the bowlers around the park to guide his team to a defendable target.
The first wicket fell in the fourteen over as spinner Yuzvendra Chahal got RCB skipper's wicket. Faf who hasn't gotten many runs under his belt this season, looked to start things fresh as he scored 44 runs off 33 balls and put a 125-run opening partnership along with Kohli.
Australian all-rounder who walked in for the last six overs couldn't add much to RCB's tally as he got out in his third delivery off Nandre Burger's bowling. While Kohli who was making the majority of the runs, needed a partner who could stay with him till the end.
Virat Kohli shines yet again for RCB
Debutant Saurav Chauhan walked in before the experienced Cameron Green, to play along with the in-form Kohli and add those crucial runs to RCB's scoreboard. Chauhan did manage to hit a six but the experienced RR bowler Chahal got rid of him. Green walked in the 18th over but played just six balls and scored a mere five runs. In the final over of the first innings, the 35-year-old managed to score three boundaries to take his side to a defendable total.
It was yet again Kohli's show as he was the lone batter who stayed at the crease till the very end. Kohli scored an unbeaten 113 and hit 12 boundaries and four sixes to take the team's total to 183/3. With this hundred, the veteran batter will be hoping that his team registers their second victory after two back-to-back losses.
