Earlier in the day, Bangladesh got off to a terrific start as their openers Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das added 93 runs for the first wicket off 88 balls. 22-year-old Hasan brought up his first half-century in ODIs as he scored 51 off 43 balls smashing five fours and three sixes in his innings. Kuldeep Yadav got the first scalp for his side as he trapped Hasan in front of the stumps in the 15th over.

Following his dismissal, Das continued his innings and went on to score 66 off 82 balls. However, he failed to get much support from the other end as Bangladesh were reduced to 137/4 after 27.4 overs. Contributions from Mushfiqur Rahim (38 off 46) and (46 off 36) took Bangladesh to the total of 256/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India as he registered figures of 2/38 in ten overs while Jasprit Bumrah (2/41) and Mohammad Siraj (2/60) also picked up two wickets each.
