Day 2 of the second Test between the West Indies and India was mostly dominated by the visitors’ batting attack. After Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli’s partnership stabilized India’s innings after a mini collapse on Day 1, both batters continued bashing the Windies’ bowlers and heaped up an even massive score.
Kohli and Jadeja ended Day 1 with scores of 87* and 36* runs respectively, and they continued their onslaught on Day 2 as well. Kohli completed his sensational ton, scoring 121 runs in 206 deliveries. Hitting the 76th ton of his career, the 34-year-old aimed to further build on the score, but he was sent packing through a runout.
Jadeja looked to be in the flow as well, completing his half-century. The veteran all-rounder scored 61 runs in 152 deliveries before he was dismissed by Kemar Roach. Furthermore, to add even more misery to the hosts, Ravichandran Ashwin came in to bat and scored a brilliant half-century as well.
Amassing 56 runs in 78 balls, Ashwin’s knock was crucial for India in posting 438 runs on the board in the first innings. Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican were the highest wicket takers for the West Indies in the first innings with three wickets to their names each. Furthermore, Jason Holder took two wickets, with Shannon Gabriel striking once.
Trailing by 438 runs in the first innings, the West Indies came in to bat and hoped for a better performance from their batters after their horrid showing in the first Test. The hosts did get off to a good start to the game; however, the opening partnership was finally broken by Ravindra Jadeja, late on day 2 of the Trinidad Test.
Sending Tagenarine Chanderpaul back to the pavilion for 33 runs, team India struck early and took the first wicket. By the time stumps were called on Day 2, the Windies found themselves at a score of 86 runs with the loss of one wicket. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Kirk McKenzie stood at the crease unbeaten at 37 and 14 runs, respectively.

Virat Kohli is dismissed for 121 runs. He now needs 124 not out or 174 out in the next innings to take his Test batting average above 50.

He is already averaging 50+ in both ODIs and T20Is, he has a chance of becoming the only player to do it in all three formats. #WIvIND pic.twitter.com/6GrMFU5SuS
