Twitter Reactions: Washington Sundar's seven-for flattens New Zealand in Pune

India and New Zealand's three-match Test series continued as both the sides locked horns in the second Test at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The visitors were coming confidently into the game after winning the series opener in Bengaluru.

The hosts made three noteworthy changes to their XI, benching KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj for Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, and Akash Deep. Meanwhile, the Kiwis made one change to their combination as they brought in Mitchell Santner for Matt Henry.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. Both the openers Tom Latham (15) and Devon Conway were once again looking to give their side a solid. It was India's ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin drew the first blood as he got rid of the Kiwi skipper. Conway then partnered up with Will Young (18)  and spent a brief time in the crease, until Ashwin bagged another wicket. 

Meanwhile, left-hand Conway was looking at his best as he brought up yet another fifty. The southpaw who was looking to smash his fifth Test ton walked back after a solid 76, lacing his innings with 11 boundaries. 

Rachin Ravindra, who smashed a century in the first Test, was looking set to play another big innings, but he fell to a peach from Washington Sundar after a brilliant knock of 65, studding his innings with five boundaries and one six.

After Ravindra's dismissal, the visitors lost three more quick wickets in the form of Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell, and Glenn Phillips in quick succession. From their, Santner took the onus upon himself and smashed a few big blows to put the pressure back on the hosts. His 33-run knock gave the Kiwis a decent first-innings score.

New Zealand were finally bundled out at 259 runs. For India, the man of the moment was Sundar, who was inducted midway through the series and claimed a career-best seven-for. Meanwhile, Ashwin also claimed three prized wickets.

With more than an hour of play left, Indian openers walked into bat with the mindset of not losing any wickets. But skipper Rohit Sharma fell victim to a cracker of a delivery from Tim Southee and walked back after a nine-ball duck. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill played their shots cautiously until the umpires called it a day. India ended the day at 16/1 and trail by 243 runs.
