Twitter Reactions: West Indies wrap up Bangladesh in a jiffy on final day to go 1-0 up
West Indies won the first Test by 201 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Only seven overs were bowled on the final day of the first Test between the West Indies and Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on Tuesday, November 26. The hosts needed just three wickets to win the Test, while Bangladesh were 225 runs shy of their target.
Alzarri Joseph provided the initial breakthrough for the West Indies in the second over on Day 5 as he dismissed Hasan Mahmud for a 12-ball duck. The right-arm pacer pitched the ball on a length around the off-stump and forced Mahmud to play at it. The Bangladeshi bowler only managed an outside edge which nestled in wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva mitts.
Jaker Ali tried to delay the inevitable before he was out LBW to Alzarri in the 37th over. This time, the tall pacer pitched the delivery around middle and it kept a tad low before rapping the batter on the pads. Jaker went for the review and it returned with three reds. The right-handed batter's innings ended on 31 off 58 balls.
Bangladesh's No. 11 batter Shoriful Islam came out to the crease and copped a blow on his shoulder off the first delivery he faced from Alzarri. After the following over bowled by Jayden Seales, the physio came out to check on Shoriful. Bangladesh decided to end their innings at the score of 132/9. The West Indies won the match by 201 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.
Kemar Roach and Seales finished with three wickets apiece in the fourth innings. Alzarri bagged two wickets on Day 5, while Shamar Joseph chipped in with the wicket of Litton Das on the penultimate day. Justin Greaves, who scored his maiden international century in the first innings, won the Player of the Match award.
