India levelled the three-match T20I series against South Africa as they beat them by 106 runs on Thursday, December 14 at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. After being put in to bat first, India posted a massive score of 201/7 in their allotted 20 overs riding on a hundred from Suryakumar Yadav. In reply, South Africa were bundled out for just 95 in 13.5 overs.

South Africa’s chase got off to the worst possible start as they lost Matthew Breetzke (4 off 3) in the second over after playing a maiden in the first one. Captain Aiden Markram walked in next and took the attack on Indian bowlers right from the word go. The Proteas lost their second wicket in the form of Reeza Hendricks (8 off 13) who fell prey to a direct hit from Mohammed Siraj at mid-on.

Heinrich Klaasen (5 off 5) and Aiden Markram (25 off 14) were dismissed by Arshdeep Singh and Ravindra Jadeja respectively to leave South Africa on 42/4 after 6.1 overs. Kuldeep Yadav further piled on the misery with his career-best figures of 5/17 in 2.5 overs to skittle South Africa for 95.

Earlier in the day, after being put in to bat first, India got off to a brisk start by their openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill (12 off 6) who added 29 runs in the first two overs. However, Keshav Maharaj brought South Africa back into the game in the third over by dismissing Gill and Tilak Varma (0 off 1) off back-to-back deliveries.

Suryakumar Yadav scored his fourth T20I hundred

After the two early blows, captain Suryakumar Yadav walked in and stitched a crucial 112-run stand for the third wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal off 70 balls. Their partnership was broken by Tabraiz Shamsi who dismissed Jaiswal for 60 off 41 balls in the 14th over. Following his dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav shifted his gears and ended up scoring a scintillating hundred off just 55 balls.

With his knock, he entered record books as he joined Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell in the list of most hundreds in T20Is. The trio has four hundreds each to their name in the shortest format of the game. Courtesy of his innings, India posted a massive score of 201/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
