Twitter Reactions: Yashasvi Jaiswal slams maiden ton at home during 2nd England Test
Yashasvi Jaiswal reached the magical three-figure mark with a six off Tom Hartley.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken to international cricket like a duck to water. After scoring a century in his debut Test on the West Indies tour last year, the Mumbai batter brought up his maiden ton at home against England on Day 1 of the second Test in Visakhapatnam.
He missed out on a century in the first innings of the first Test, as he was dismissed after playing an enterprising knock of 80 off just 74 balls. However, he didn't let the opportunity slide in Visakhapatnam, as he got to the magical three-figure mark with a six off Tom Hartley.
Yashasvi attacked the English bowlers from the get-go in the first Test but on Friday, he was very watchful at the start and only chose the bad balls to hit his boundaries. He got to his first fifty off 89 balls. In the second session, he played with more flamboyance and took just 62 balls to score his second fifty. The talented youngster hit 11 fours and three sixes en route to his century.
The application shown by the opening batter, especially in the initial phase of his innings, was praised by the veterans in the commentary box. His contrasting knocks in the two Tests so far, show his ability to adapt to different situations of the game and bat accordingly. Indian fans will be hoping that he prolongs his stay at the crease in the first innings and help the hosts put a substantial total on the board.
The Hyderabad pitch assisted the spinners from Day 1. However, the same cannot be said about the pitch in Visakhapatnam. Spinners have had to bowl consistently in good areas to apply pressure on the batters. England will have to bat last on this pitch and a big total for India in the first innings could help them put Ben Stokes and Co. under pressure.
