The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 turned into a forgettable season for Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw. The 23-year-old batter did not perform well with the bat in the tournament despite the franchise having continued to give him opportunities to bat in the top order. Ahead of the match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the youngster was dropped from the combination as Delhi went ahead with a differenct opening combination.
Shaw has had a terrible start to the IPL 2023 season, which has become one of the reasons for Delhi Capitals' disastrous season so far. DC suffered five consecutive losses but finally managed to open their account in the ongoing IPL season by defeating the two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their sixth encounter. The young batter played in all six matches for the David Warner-led side but could only score 47 runs, including two ducks.
In Shaw's absence, Sarfaraz Khan was recalled to the team as the wicketkeeper-batter found his way back into the side. Meanwhile, England batter Phil Salt opened the batting alongside Warner. However, DC's strategy failed as Salt walked back to the pavilion for a duck.
Meanwhile, DC captain Warner showed confidence in his teammate, and believes he will return to the starting lineup pretty soon. Shaw, according to the Australian, is a very good and driven player who will work hard to improve his flaws.
"Look, we know he is a very very good player. He is going to work his backside off to get back into the team, we know it. He is very hungry and determined. I have no doubt, he will make his way back in," the DC skipper said at the toss.
This is a special match for the Australia opener since it is his first visit to Hyderabad since leaving SRH. Despite being the opposition team’s captain, the former SRH skipper earned an enthusiastic reception after winning the toss at the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium. Notably, Warner guided Hyderabad to their only IPL title in 2016.
