'He was looking nervous tonight' - Twitter not impressed with Virat Kohli getting out early in 1st T20I vs AUS
Batting megastar Virat Kohli was dismissed for just two runs in the opening T20I against the reigning T20 world champions Australia at Mohali's PCA Stadium.
All eyes were on India's batting maestro Virat Kohli's good form heading into the first T20I against the reigning T20 world champions at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday, September 20. However, he failed to make an impact with the bat and was forced to make his way back to the dugout early.
Kohli was expected to take on the Australian attack after the Men in Blue had lost the prized wicket of skipper Rohit Sharma. The hosts were put into bat by the visiting skipper Aaron Finch. While vice-captain KL Rahul tried to hold the innings from one end, he failed to get that much-needed support from Virat.
Virat Kohli dismissed early in the first T20I against Australia
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul had ensured a cautious start for India before Rohit was dismissed in the third over and that is when the batting icon walked out to bat with the aim of continuing his blazing form from where he had left off against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup.
Kohli could only manage two runs from seven deliveries before being dismissed just an over before the completion of the Powerplay.
On the penultimate delivery of the fifth over, Nathan Ellis had pitched one on the middle as the 33-year-old advanced down the wicket with the intention of hitting the ball over mid-on. However, he failed to time the ball well and ended up finding Cameron Green who made absolutely no mistake in completing an easy catch at mid-on. A dejected Kohli had no choice other than to take a long walk back to the dugout as the Australians celebrated in delight.
The Delhi cricketer's wicket meant that India were in all sorts of trouble before the end of the Powerplay being reduced to 35/2 after 4.5 overs.
Virat Kohli, who had scored his maiden T20I and 71st international century against Afghanistan during India's final Asia Cup 2022 fixture was expected to score his 72nd ton leading into this match and now, he would need to wait another day in order to achieve that feat.
