While India's swashbuckling opener Smriti Mandhana kicked off the Women's Premiere League auction in Mumbai, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was bagged by the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.8 crore. She was the second player to go under the hammer after Mandhana, who was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who had placed herself in the Rs 50 lakh bracket, was roped in by the Mumbai Indians after an intense bidding war with the Delhi Capitals. However, Mumbai were successful in getting their hands on the prized cricketer after missing out on her compatriot Smriti Mandhana.

Kaur, who is currently leading the Indian team in the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa, is more than likely to lead the side in the inaugural edition of the tournament. The Indian team scripted a thrilling victory over arch-rivals Pakistan under her guidance in their campaign opener on Sunday, February 12.

The Indian captain is a household name in white-ball cricket due to her all-around exploits on the field. Kaur became the first Indian cricketer to feature in an overseas league after Sydney Thunder signed her for the Women's Big Bash League in 2016. She has been leading the national team since former Indian cricketer Mithali Raj vacated the role.

The veteran cricketer was seen congratulating her compatriot Smriti Mandhana along with the Indian teammates, who were watching the auction from South Africa.
