‘What does RR see in Riyan Parag?’ - Twitter fumes after youngster fails miserably with his bat yet again
Parag scored seven off 11 deliveries against DC.
Ahead of IPL 2023, youngster Riyan Parag made a huge statement assuring that he will hit four sixes in an over in the upcoming edition. However, in three matches so far, the 21-year-old has scored only 34 runs and thus, his spot in the playing XI is currently in jeopardy. Notably, against Delhi Capitals on April 8, Parag was promoted up in the order and had a great chance to make a difference but the cricketer once again failed to make a mark.
Openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave a perfect start to Rajasthan but with two back-to-back wickets of skipper Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag, they slightly went to their backfoot. However, Buttler kept them going and smashed 79 runs off 51 deliveries. Courtesy of his well-calculated innings, the England international once again leading the IPL Orange Cap race.
Jaiswal meanwhile played a phenomenal knock of 60 runs in 31 deliveries. The 21-year-old put Rajasthan in the driver’s seat with his charismatic batting and courtesy of which, Rajasthan posted a humongous total of 199 runs in 20 overs. Against a struggling batting unit of Delhi Capitals, the Sanju Samson-led side will back themselves to register their second win of the season but things may not be that simple in the middle. Especially when the pitch is tailor-made for the batters to succeed.
However, despite so many positives, Riyan Parag’s innings is one of the biggest setbacks for Rajasthan at the moment. The fans shared their opinion on Twitter asking the franchise to consider Devdutt Padikkal in his spot, who was dropped from the playing XI against Delhi. Overall, Parag has played 49 matches so far in the cash-rich league and has scored only 549 runs at an average of 16.64. Thus, the cricketer needs to improve massively in the coming games to retain his position in the playing XI. Otherwise, the franchise may take the harsh call of dropping him.
