'Where have you been since 2019' - Fans not happy with Imad Wasim's 'best on planet' remark for Virat Kohli
Pakistan all-rounder, Imad, heaped praise on Kohli following his century against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022.
Following Virat Kohli’s heroics with the bat against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai on September 8, Thursday, Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim called the star Indian batter the best player in the world. Kohli was on a lean patch with the bat and was going through a century drought for over 1000 days. And the Pakistan all-rounder believes that Kohli is now back in form.
Coming into the Asia Cup 2022, Kohli averaged close to 25 across all three formats for the year. After the game against Afghanistan, he signed off as the top-scorer of the tournament with two fifties and a century, and 276 runs in five matches. This was his first international century since November 2019 and also his first in T20Is. He has now equalled Ricky Ponting with 71 international centuries and is second only to Sachin Tendulkar, who has 100 centuries.
Pakistan fans not happy with Imad’s remarks
Kohli, after opening the innings, stayed unbeaten on 122 off 61 and took India to 212 in 20 overs. In the Afghanistan innings, it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who cleaned up the Afghani top-order with an opening spell of five wickets for four runs in four overs. And consequently, Afghanistan were held for only 111 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Although it was a dead rubber with both teams already being knocked out of the tournament, those were good signs for the Indian team with Kohli back among runs.
Kohli is undoubtedly one of the best cricketers of this era and one of the best Indian players of all time. He is among the elite batters of the modern game such as Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson and the Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam. With Imad calling Kohli the “best player on the planet”, it has understandably displeased the Pakistani fans as they themselves have one of the best players in the world in Babar.
