The 48th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals and the defending champions, Gujarat Titans, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, on Friday, May 5.
Winning the toss, Rajasthan elected to bat first in Jaipur. However, the side got off to the worst of starts in the first innings as Jos Buttler only managed to score eight runs before he was dismissed. Furthermore, man-in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal ran himself out as well and failed to make an impact.
As Ashwin and Sanju Samson fell prey to Gujarat’s bowling attack, Rajasthan brought in their impact player in the form of Riyan Parag. The 21-year-old had been going through a rough patch in the IPL 2023; having just amassed 56 runs in six games so far, Parag failed to make an impact once again. Coming in as a substitute, Parag was sent packing by Rashid Khan for just four runs. Following yet another poor performance, fans took to Twitter to troll the Guwahati-born batter.
RR aim to register their sixth win of the IPL 2023
Rajasthan came into the game against Gujarat on the back of a loss to the five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Both sides took each other on in the 42nd game of the tournament, and despite posting 212 runs on the board in the first innings, the Sanju Samson-led side lost the game due to a brilliant batting performance from the five-time champions.
Rajasthan got off to a good start to the tournament, having won four out of their first five games. However, they were quick to lose that momentum when they lost back-to-back games against Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Having won five out of nine games at the IPL 2023 so far, Rajasthan find themselves in fourth place in the IPL points table with 10 points. They would be keen on winning the majority of their remaining games to keep their qualification hopes alive.
