WPL 2023, UP Warriorz vs Delhi Capitals, Match 20: Best memes from the game
Delhi Capitals defeated UP Warriorz by five wickets and qualified for the finals of the competition.
The final league game of the ongoing Women’s Premier League saw Delhi Capitals beat UP Warriorz by five wickets to qualify for the finals of the competition. Notably, they toppled Mumbai Indians in Net Run Rate (NRR) and finished as the league leaders and courtesy of which, they have earned the luxury. On the other hand, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will now be playing in the Eliminators and will challenge UP on March 24 at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
Coming to the match, UP’s Indian batters once again failed to step up and that’s a massive concern ahead of the Eliminator. Skipper Alyssa Healy started well, scoring 36 runs off 34 deliveries but wickets kept on falling from the other end. However, Australia all-rounder Tahlia McGrath came to the rescue, scoring 58* runs off 32 deliveries. Based on her innings, UP posted 138 runs after 20 overs.
Notably, Delhi have done a good job with the ball, as 18-year-old Alice Capsey picked up three wickets in the match. On the other hand, Radha Yadav picked up two and Jess Jonassen picked up one.
Now, coming to Delhi’s chase, openers Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma gave them a good start but none of them could take it to the next stage. Youngster Shafali got dismissed by Soppadhandi Yashasri on 21 runs while the skipper had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring 39 runs off 23 deliveries. Meanwhile, batting at number three, Jemimah Rodrigues too failed to make the most of the opportunity as three quick wickets changed the momentum of the game.
However, all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Alice Capsey stabilized the situation and rescued Delhi from a tough spot. Notably, Capsey got out after scoring 34 off 31 deliveries while Kapp remained not out scoring 34* off 31 deliveries. When it comes to UP's bowing, Shabnim Ismail picked up two wickets but that still doesn't guarantee her a spot in the playing XI as Grace Harris may make her return in the eliminator.
