Let’s take a look at the highlights from Match 19 of WPL 2024:

1. Marizanne Kapp shines with the new ball

The right-arm seamer continued her marvellous form with the new ball as she got the prized scalp of Gujarat captain Beth Mooney (0 off 5) in the first over itself. Kapp further dismissed the in-form batter Laura Wolvaardt getting her caught at mid-off. As a result, she finished her spell with figures of 2/17 in four overs and became the joint-highest wicket-taker of the season with 11 scalps to her name.

2. Minnu Manni spins a web around Gujarat

The left-arm spinner was brought into the attack in the ninth over and immediately vindicated her captain’s decision by destroying Ashleigh Gardner’s stumps in the ninth over and scalped her first wicket in WPL. She further got rid of Phoebe Litchfield (21 off 22) in her second over to register figures of 2/9 in two overs.

3. Bharti Fulmali and Kathryn Bryce rescue Gujarat’s innings

After a brilliant spell from Kapp and Manni, Gujarat were left reeling at 48/5 after 10.2 overs. Seeing their team in trouble, Fulmali (42 off 36) and Bryce (28* off 22) got involved in a crucial stand of 68 off 50 balls and helped their team reach a respectable total of 126/9.

4. Shafali storm blows away Gujarat

The Delhi opening batter came out with a clear intent of taking on the bowlers as she began her innings with a flurry of boundaries. Verma went on to play a scintillating knock of 71 off 37 balls with the help of seven fours and five sixes and helped DC chase down the target in 13.1 overs.
