After a little hiccup in their campaign in Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) bounced back strongly with a seven-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCB-W) in Match 9 on Saturday, March 2 at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. After being put in to bat first, RCB could only score 131/6 in their allotted 20 overs with Ellyse Perry being the lone warrior in the innings with her knock of 44* (38).
In reply, MI comfortably chased down the target in 15.1 overs with solid contributions from Yastika Bhatia (31 off 15), Hayley Matthews (26 off 21), Nat Sciver-Brunt (27 off 25), Amelia Kerr (40* off 24). Bhatia and Matthews got their team off to a quick start adding 45 runs for the first wicket off 23 balls. Following their dismissals, Sciver-Brunt and Kerr brought MI on the verge of a win with their 49-run stand before the latter finished things off.

1. MI Bowlers bring RCB on their knees in the first half
RCB’s innings didn’t start off well as they lost their captain Smriti Mandhana (9 off 11) in the third over. They further lost Sabbhineni Meghana (11 off 12) and Sophie Devine (9 off 10) to be at 33/3 after 5.4 overs. After the powerplay, Pooja Vastrakar got rid of Richa Ghosh (7 off 10) and Sophie Molineux (12 off 14) to leave RCB on 71/5 after 18.5 overs.

2. Elysse Perry rescues RCB’s innings and guides them to a respectable total
The Australia all-rounder walked in at number four and got involved in a crucial 52-run stand with Georgia Wareham (27 off 20) which helped his side cross the 120-run mark. Perry went on to score an unbeaten 44* (38) with the help of five fours and took RCB to a fighting total.

3. Yastika Bhatia and Amelia Kerr star in MI’s run chase
Bhatia opened the innings with Hayley Matthews and played a quickfire knock of 31 (15) laced with four fours and two sixes. Following her dismissal, Amelia Kerr took the onus of keeping up with the scoring rate with her unbeaten knock of 40* (24) with the help of seven fours.
