'You Freak' - Twitter reacts as Delhi Capitals' Jake Fraser-McGurk scores fastest fifty of IPL 2024
Fraser-McGurk scored a fifty in just 15 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Delhi Capitals' (DC) young batting sensation, Jake Fraser-McGurk, notched up the fastest fifty of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). He achieved the remarkable feat in just 15 deliveries during Delhi's clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, April 20.
In pursuit of the daunting 267-run target, Delhi encountered early setbacks, losing the wickets of openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner inside the first two overs. Nevertheless, Jake and Abhishek Porel powered DC to a formidable position. Jake smashed a towering six off Mayank Markande's delivery to bring his second half-century this season. Not content with just a single milestone, he celebrated his quick fifty with yet another impressive six. Despite a missed cut shot that led to a wide being called, the rookie batter quickly bounced back, smashing yet another maximum, demonstrating his remarkable batting prowess.
Regrettably, his innings came to an end as he attempted another big shot on the final delivery of the seventh over, only for wicket-keeper Heinrich Klaasen to complete a crucial catch. The 22-year-old Australian departed after a sensational knock of 65 runs in just 18 deliveries, featuring five boundaries and seven maximums, leaving an indelible mark on the game.
SRH posted fourth highest innings total in IPL 2024
After being put to bat first, SRH batters showcased their prowess, setting a colossal total of 266 on the board. The opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma provided a flying start, forging a formidable 131-run partnership for the first wicket. Abhishek's innings was particularly impressive, as he blazed his way to 46 runs off a mere 12 deliveries, boasting a remarkable strike rate of 383.33, before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav in the seventh over.
Kuldeep struck again in the same over, claiming the wicket of Aiden Markram who managed to score a single run. Meanwhile, Head continued to build on his momentum, smashing 89 runs off just 32 deliveries, featuring 11 boundaries and six maximums. Later in the innings, Shahbaz Ahmed joined the onslaught, smashing an unbeaten 59 off 29 deliveries, propelling SRH to set a mammoth target.
