One of the most entertaining characters on a cricket field Shikhar Dhawan carries a different aura and positive vibe every time he comes into bat. Though he hasn’t been in the greatest of forms of late but he still is a strong force to reckon with especially on Indian pitches. Unflappable under crunch situations, Dhawan’s game revolves around his strengths and he never curbs down his natural instincts be it on the field or off it.

The destructive opening batsman made his first-class debut way back in 2004 but it took him a further nine years to make his Test debut. Despite waiting in the wings for so long, Dhawan was quick to cash in on his opportunity and went on to score a breathtaking 187 against the mighty Australians at Mohali in 2013.

Since making his debut Dhawan had become a regular member of the Indian squad across all formats but his recent dip in form along with his injury scare has kept him out of the national side in the last month or so. The southpaw came in as a perfect replacement for Virender Sehwag and provided the quick starts similar to what Sehwag used to do for India during his hey days.

Dhawan has a particularly impressive limited-overs record and was pivotal in India winning the Champions Trophy in England in the year 2013. He scored match-winning centuries against South Africa and West India in the opening group games and continued his good form throughout the tournament. The hard-hitting batsman was also adjudged the “Player of the Series”.

He would now wish to regain fitness, get some runs under his belt in domestic cricket and then make a comeback in the national team. On the occasion of his 31st birthday, Dhawan received several wishes on Twitter including some by his Team India mates and also fellow cricketers.
