PV Sindhu has already created history being the first Indian woman to enter the final of an Olympic badminton event. Today, she also became the first Indian female player to win an individual Olympic silver medal.
With her convincing win against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara on Thursday in straight games, Sindhu has become a household name. Having won the bronze medal twice in the World Championship, she is not anymore new to big games being ranked No.10 in the world rankings ahead of this match.
The match saw a lot of hard-fought points as the World ranking No.1 Carolina Marin brushed up against the Indian star, as past records will count for nothing when the two players fight for gold.
The first set saw PV Sindhu came from behind at 6-11 to seal the set 21-19. PV Sindhu won a thrilling first set as she came one step closer to the gold medal. The spectators who were chanting India, India, India by then.

Carolina Marin started off the second set well, to lead the set by 6-1 and 14-6, and went on to win clinch the set by 21-12. With Sindhu winning the first set and Marin winning the second set, the stage was set for a thrilling final set.
The final set saw all the moments an Olympics final is expected to have, as PV Sindhu came back from 1-5 to level the set 10-10. The match continued with a lot of excitement and aggression from both the players. As in the first set, Sindhu never found herself having a lead in most part of the set as the World No.1 won the set and won the Gold medal as the score reads 19-21, 21-12, 21-15.

Marin went into tears after the win and PV Sidhu was the first to congratulate her. Nonetheless, one of the proudest moments for India at the Rio.
