Hobart Hurricanes were involved in an enthralling battle against Brisbane Heats in the 29th match of Big Bash League 2019-20. It was a low-scoring encounter full of ups and downs and fans must have enjoyed the game to the fullest at The Gabba. Brisbane Heat won the game on the back of a brilliant partnership stitched between Ben Cutting and Jimmy Peirson. They also registered their second consecutive win in BBL and managed to grab two important points that took them to the third position in the league table.

Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bat first but the decision didn’t go into their favour. They lost their opener Caleb Jewell in the second over of the innings after he attempted to play a stroke off Matt Renshaw over mid-off but failed to get the elevation right. He was caught by Joe Burns.

On the other end, Mathew Wade, who was playing his first of BBL in this season, looked in fine touch with the bat. He smashed Heat’s bowlers across the park and played a convincing knock of 61 runs off 46 balls with three boundaries and two massive sixes. However, he didn’t get any support from the other end as all the other batsmen failed to click with the bat.

Brisbane Heat bowlers displayed some brilliant performance in the match due to which Hurricane batters struggled throughout the match. Josh Lalor, the left-arm fast bowler dismissed three players- Simon Milenko, Thomas Rogers and Qais Ahmad in his spell. He turned out to be the best bowler for Heat as he registered brilliant bowling figures of 3/21. At the end of the innings, Hurricane could only manage to score only 126 runs for the loss of nine wickets in stipulated 20 overs.

Coming onto the chase, most fans thought that it will be a cakewalk for the star-studded batting line up of Brisbane Heat but that was not the case. Heat got to a good start their openers Tom Banton (17 runs off 17 balls) and Max Bryant (28 runs off 18 balls) stitched a partnership of 34 runs for the first wicket. But soon, Qais Ahmad dismissed Banton in the fifth over of the innings.

And, as sudden collapse of the middle-order left Heat struggling on a score of 63 runs with four wickets. Their in-form batsmen Chris Lynn, Matt Renshaw and Joe Burns failed to play a worthy knock against Hurricanes. Later on, a brilliant partnership between Jimmy Peirson (23 runs off 25 balls) and Ben Cutting (43 runs off 29 balls) took the match away from the visitors.

After a long hustle, Brisbane Heat chased the target of 126 runs with 10 balls to spare as they registered a convincing victory by five wickets. Ben Cutting was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant knock.
