Twitter Reactions: Dale Steyn becomes the leading wicket-taker for South Africa in Tests
He achieved the feat only in the fourth over of his spell.
It was only a matter of time when Dale Steyn was going to become the highest wicket-taker for South Africa in Tests when he crossed the 400-wicket mark. But the fate had something else written for him. The Australia tour turned out to be the curse for him getting injured during the purple patch. His shoulder injury almost ended his illustrious career before returning for the series against India in January 2018.
But the veteran had to wait even more. He copped yet another injury and was ruled out only after playing a solitary game. Many wrote him off saying that Steyn’s career was over. However, the man himself always believed in himself and fought his way back into the team fitter and stronger than ever. Steyn travelled to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series and then played Zimbabwe ODI series.
Steyn strikes only in fourth over
With the injuries to Lungi Ngidi and Vernon Philander, it was certain that Dale Steyn will walk into the playing XI for South Africa in the first Test against Pakistan. There was a lot anticipation about him playing as a record was in sight. He needed only a solitary scalp to go past Shaun Pollock and become the leading wicket-taker for his country.
It didn’t take much for him to achieve the feat as the former World number 1 Test bowler induced an edge off Fakhar Zaman’s bat in the fourth over of his opening spell. It was a superb delivery outside the off-stump pitched on a good length and was enough for the batsmn to go for a drive and edge it. Dean Elgar at the second slip didn’t do any mistake and there was elation in the crowd and the South African camp as well.
Soon after achieving the feat, the messages flooded for Dale Steyn on social media as everyone congratulated him for his record.
