Daniel Hughes played yet another impressive innings of 41 as the Sydney Sixers went ahead and launched their season with two wins on the spin. Playing in front of a familiar audience in the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Sixers fired on all cylinders as this was perhaps one of their better and most complete performances in the season.
However, while Daniel Hughes was able to leave his mark yet again on proceedings, it was quite clear that the finishing touches for the match had to come from somewhere. This somewhere came in the form of Brad Haddin who was able to smash the ball a country mile to ensure that the Sixers clinched a win in the final over with three deliveries to spare.
With Jackson Bird returning back into the squad, it was clear that the strength of power had already shifted straight back into the home side. The ploy of playing Sunil Narine as an opener quickly backfired as Bird snapped up his number.
Having been dropped from the side, Aaron Finch ensured that he made his presence felt by smashing the bowlers, thus making a case for himself on the tour of India. He smashed the only half-century of the match as he amassed 57 runs to his name. Tom Cooper and Callum Ferguson then went ahead and began to stamp their authority on the match as they amassed 39 runs each, thereby ensuring that the Strikers would eventually reach a score of 170 in their 20 overs.
However, in spite of all this, there was the completeness of the performance by the left-handers Michael Lumb and Nic Maddinson who got off to important starts on the day before the match was eventually closed out by Moises Henriques and the big-hitting Brad Haddin. The latter was named as the man of the match for his impressive performance.

Finch: No excuses, we were sloppy in the field. We let them off the hook quite a bit. It's something we've got to address. #BBL06

Honestly don't think the Renegades make it in the finals anymore, can't see how that team will help them out at all #BBL06

Finch: It's tough, two close losses but we've got to stay positive and force our way into the finals. #BBL06

The Scorchers are well placed to qualify with six points but they have tough matches v Heat (A) & Stars (H) before Hurricanes (A). #BBL06

Did Finch make a mistake going back to Patto who was going at 13RPO?
Cooper had bowled 1 over for 1
Short 1 over for 6… #BBL06— CricketAus Fan (@CricketAustFan) January 9, 2017
Heat & Sixers are now on 8 points. That has only not been enough to progress to the semi finals once: in BBL02. #BBL06
