It was another double-header and it was time for a match between the Galle Gladiators and the Kandy Tuskers in LPL. It was a very important game as the winner would go through to the semi-finals while the loser would be knocked out. Galle won the toss and opted to bowl first.

The Tuskers got off to a disastrous start as they lost both the openers in the initial few overs. They started off in a very conservative manner in order to not lose a wicket. The pressure of a must-win game could clearly be seen. Brendan Taylor and Kusal Mendis tried to form a partnership to bring things back on track.

Taylor could not capitalize on his start and was dismissed soon after. Mendis continued with his good performance but got no support from the other end. His knock of 68 off just 42 balls included six fours and four sixes. The lack of support though meant that the team was bowled out for a mere 126 in 19.1 overs.

When a team is dismissed for 126 you know the bowlers have done a great job. Mohammad Amir was the pick of the bowlers as he took two wickets conceding only 11 runs in his four overs. Nuwan Thushara, Dhananjaya Lakshan, and Sahan Arachchige took two wickets each too.

Bowlers propel Galle Gladiators to the semifinals

Coming to the chase, a team needing a mere 127 would always be the one to be backed. So was the case for the Galle side. One big performance or a few small contributions would be enough to take them home. Luckily for them, Danushka Gunathilaka came up with the big knock.

He knew what his team needed and played a calm and composed knock to take them over the line. His knock of 94* off 66 balls was one for the youngsters to learn from. While Hazratullah Zazai was struggling at the other end and was eventually dismissed for a score of 20 off 34 balls, the pressure never seemed to be on the Gladiators.

They successfully chased down the target in 17 overs as Gunathilaka missed out on his much deserved 100. Dilruwan Perera was the only bowler to take a wicket for the Tuskers. This was the end of the road for them as the Gladiators have qualified based on their superior net run-rate.
