The Delhi Daredevils are virtually out of the race from the playoffs. Unless they win all their remaining games and hope to get a few results going their way, it will be very tough for them to make it to the business end of the season. The Daredevils moved to Hyderabad to face off against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a must-win game but ended up falling short by quite a big margin.

After having batted first, the Daredevils looked content with 163 runs on the board. Many believed that they had posted an over par total on the track that has traditionally not been a very high scoring one. Despite this, the bowlers failed to live up to the expectations for the visitors. The Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off the highest successful chase at the venue in the season and finished the game with 7 wickets in hand.

Earlier in the match, the Delhi Daredevils skipper Shreyas Iyer made a very sensible decision by opting to bat first after winning the toss. The Sunrisers Hyderabad have been defending very low scores this season and hence, it was only prudent to let them bat second in the game. The Daredevils had a poor start to their innings with Glenn Maxwell being run out on 2 in the second over.

Prithvi Shaw, the other opener, then partnered with Shreyas Iyer to add 86 runs for the second wicket. The partnership was broken when Shaw was dismissed on 65 by Rashid Khan. Shaw’s efforts came in just 36 deliveries with 6 fours and 3 sixes. This was his second fifty in the tournament.

After Shaw’s dismissal, Iyer rallied along well for his 36-ball 44. However, post his dismissal, the innings did not find any other anchor. Vijay Shankar played a handy knock of unbeaten 23 to take the Delhi Daredevils total to 163/5 in 20 overs.

In the run chase, the Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a flying start with Alex Hales and Shikhar Dhawan added 76 runs for the opening stand. Hales hammered 45 off 31 deliveries and Dhawan scored a 30-ball 33. After the openers perished, Kane Williamson stayed at the crease till the very end to ensure his side crossed the line. Yusuf Pathan was the man who turned the tables though. Pathan hit a brisk unbeaten 27 off 12 balls to win the match for his side. His lusty blows in the final over sealed the game for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
