The fourth edition of the Caribbean Premier League kicked off with an entertaining contest between the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders and the St Lucia Zouks at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.

It wasn’t a sweet start for the Dwayne Bravo-led Knight Riders as they inflicted a 6 wicket loss at the hands of the Darren Sammy’s Zouks. The contest was a well-fought one. The day itself began with on a winning not for Sammy as he won the toss and opted to chase. His bowlers did not disappoint him as his bowlers took control of the first half of the Knight Rider’s innings.

Derone Davis struck with the first ball of his spell to send the potent Brandon McCullum in the 3rd over and provide his team with the first breakthrough of the day. Spinner Nitish Kumar and Shane Watson t6hen chipped in with one wicket each to leave their opposition at 63/3 at the end of the 10th over.

But, Darren Bravo (63 from 44 balls) and Umar Akmal (30 from 28 balls) then took control of the proceeding and added a quick 66 runs for the 4th wicket to help the Knight Riders reach a decent 162/6 after 20 overs.

In reply, Johnston Charles and Shane Watson gave a breezy start to the chase before Watto was made to depart by Narine just a ball before the end of the powerplay. Charles then combined with his national tea mate Andre Fletcher and took things forward before Narine again intervened, this time taking the wicket of Charles. Fletcher too departed shortly.

But, the chase did not suffer much after the back to back wicket as there was not much to work left. David Miller (33 from 20 balls) and Darren Sammy (11 from 5 balls) knocked off the remaining runs to be made and ensured a smooth win.
