The plight of the St Lucia Stars in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) continues. They now lost their 15th game in a row which is quite an embarrassing record to hold. Unlike in the previous game, the bowlers were the culprits this time around as the batsmen did really well to get the team to a big score. Nothing seems to be working for them at the moment as the Trinbago Knight Riders registered a 5-wicket win against them baffling all the odds courtesy Darren Bravo.

Darren Bravo was terrific with the bat in this encounter. All he took was 36 balls to get to 94 runs and was very unfortunate to have missed out on his century. He got his team home from the verges of a defeat with the help of a Brendon McCullum special. Bravo outshined Kieron Pollard’s heroics with the bat courtesy some unbelievable power hitting. The Knights are now second on the points table after this win.

Pollard in an absolute beast mode

After losing the toss, the St Lucia Stars were put into bat first. There were quite a few concerns going around the batting of the St Lucia Stars ahead of this encounter. However, the teams’ batters responded beautifully. Although the team lost their keeper Andre Fletcher for just 17 runs, David Warner and R Cornwall hung out together in the middle to build a 79-run partnership. Warner was finally amongst the runs after a long time.

The 31-year-old gave himself some good time out there in the middle and didn’t look to score at an aggressive rate. He remained unbeaten on 72 off 55 balls which is quite a positive sign. Cornwall was the aggressor in the partnership with 53 off 29 balls. But the best innings came from the willow of Kieron Pollard who came into the middle in the 15th over. He took most of the strike in the final few overs and scored 65 runs off an unbelievable 23 balls to power his team to 212 runs in 20 overs.

Darren Bravo does an Andre Russell

Chasing this massive total down, the Trinbago Knight Riders lost their openers Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn early in the innings. Soon, Colin Munro was also dismissed after he scored 25 runs. Brendon McCullum and Darren Bravo were out there in the middle and it seemed as if St Lucia Stars would finally register a win as this duo was taking its own time to score runs in the middle.

The Knights’ score was 128/3 at the end of 15 overs. The equation was down to 85 from 30 balls. Then unleashed the magic from Darren Bravo. He tonked Kieron Pollard for 32 runs in the 16 overs where he hit 5 sixes. Brendon McCullum scored 20 runs off the next over and add a wide to the tally. Hence, within no time, the equation was down to 32 from 18 balls which seemed all easy the way these two were going.

The team got another 27 runs in the next over with Bravo smashing four more sixes in the same over. Now, just five runs were needed in the last two overs. But, Mitchell McClenaghan just conceded two runs in the 19th over and picked up the wickets of McCullum and Searles. But, Dinesh Ramdin sealed the game for the Knights with a six off the last second ball of the innings.

Twitter was happy to see Warner back in form and praised Pollard for the destruction with the bat. However, they also trolled him for his bowling and captaincy. Darren Bravo, who all of a sudden set the match on fire was the hero and it was all praise for him.
