Twitter Reactions: Dawid Malan and bowlers hand England a series win over South Africa
The game went to the last over but England were always in control of the proceedings.
After a good first match, England entered the second game as favourites once again. They were looking to seal the series in this match itself. South Africa, on the other hand, needed to make a strong comeback in order to level the series. The former won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The first match had made it clear that if the hosts were to win, they had to put up a very big score. The start was always going to be very crucial and the responsibility was once again on Quinton de Kock. He did get off to a good start but was dismissed after scoring a good 30.
The rest of the batsmen never really got going. Rassie van der Dussen scored 25 runs but he took as many as 29 balls. He stayed at the crease for really long but he just never got going. George Linde played a good hand as he scored 29 runs in 20 balls to provide them with the finishing impetus.
A mediocre batting effort took South Africa to a score of 146 runs. Adil Rashid was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with two wickets conceding only 23 runs in his four overs.
Dawid Malan shows why he’s the No.1 T20I batsman
With a target of only 147 it was always going to be a walk in the park for the strong English line-up. South Africa needed early wickets and that’s exactly what they got. Anrich Nortje was back and even though he did not get any wickets, he bowled very tight lines and lengths.
The openers got starts but none of them were able to capitalize on it. However, the number one T20I batsman, Dawid Malan rose to the occasion. He started off slowly but made sure to not throw it away. He eventually scored 55 runs off 40 balls to take his team to a comfortable position.
Eoin Morgan played a good cameo as he scored 26 runs in just 17 balls. England eventually finished off the game in 19.5 overs to register a four-wicket win. This win also helped them secure the series 2-0. For South Africa, Tabraiz Shamsi’s brilliant performance with the ball was definitely a positive to take from this match. He took three wickets conceding only 19 runs in his four overs.
