After three riveting days of Test Cricket at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, Day 4 too followed the same trend as the ones previously. Yet again, it was a cracking contest between two evenly poised sides with either team refusing to give the upper hand to the other team.

However, due to the developments in the third session, one can safely say that it is the Pakistan team which holds the upper hand in the match as Sri Lanka is tottering at 69-4 with a second innings lead of 66 runs. The men in green resumed the day’s play with Azhar Ali batting at one end and debutant Haris Sohail giving him company.

Azhar Ali’s marathon innings came to an end with a soft dismissal as he chipped one to short mid wicket when batting at 85. Debutant Haris Sohail, along with the support from the lower order, helped his side clinch a slender lead of 3 runs. Pakistan ended up with first innings score of 422 in reply of Sri Lanka’s 419.

Sohail’s brisk innings comprised of 76 runs off 161 balls, as he smashed 7 boundaries and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 47.20. Hassan Ali, who smashed 29 off 25 balls, and captain Sarfraz Ahmed scored important cameos to give support to the debutant at the other end.

No prizes for guesses, it was veteran off-spinner Rangana Herath who was the pick of the bowlers as he brought up his 32nd 5-wicket haul in Test Cricket. Nuwan Pradeep and Suranga Lakmal picked up a couple of wickets each to provide assistance to Herath.

Sri Lanka had their task cut out to put forward a challenging side in front of the home team who would be batting last. The Lankans crumbled under pressure and lost 4 premiere wickets in the 40 overs bowled in the last session. Yasir Shah picked up the wickets of Karunarate and Chandimal to create further sorrows for the visitors.
