Twitter Reactions: Delhi Capitals buy Shimron Hetmyer at an astounding price of 7.75 Cr
In a tussle between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, Hetmyer's price sky-rocketed to 7.75 crores.
As the auction for the 13th edition of the IPL kicked off in Kolkata on Thursday, franchises shellacked a hefty sum on many eminent players. Australian pacer Pat Cummins became the second most expensive player ever in the IPL Auction after Yuvraj Singh.
It was pretty much known that many West Indies players will also rage a bidding war among the franchises. One Caribbean player who initiated a three-way bidding war was Shimron Hetmyer. The 22-year-old had set his base price as 50 Lacs INR. However, the bidding battle escalated his price to the sky. Rajasthan Royals initiated the bid with his base price and Kolkata Knight Riders also joined to soar the price to 1.4 crores INR until Delhi Capitals also stepped into the ring.
In a tussle between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, Hetmyer’s price sky-rocketed to 7.75 crores. Delhi Capitals were eventually successful to acquire the services of the young left-hander. Considering the West Indies players’ impact in the Indian Premier League, Hetmyer is expected to grab the headlines with his aggressive approach to the game.
Shimron Hetmyer was previously a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore
Delhi, who still have 14.70 crores left in their purse, have bolstered their top-order. Hetmyer is a player who can change the strides in his side’s favour with his explosive batting. Hetmyer recently had hogged the limelight when he had smashed 139 runs against India to propel his side to the victory at Chennai. Hetmyer has previously donned the jersey for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. However, he has been unsuccessful to leave his mark in the cash-rich league. The Guyana-born batsman is touted to showcase his forte in the upcoming IPL season.
In 42 ODIs for West Indies, the left-hander has amassed 1379 runs at an impressive average of 38.30. Delhi Capitals already have the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer in their top-order batting arsenal. With the inclusion of Hetmyer, Delhi Capitals certainly is equipped with one of the strongest batting forces in the league.
