Twitter Reactions: Dinesh Chandimal and Niroshan Dickwella earn a hard-fought draw for Sri Lanka

The first Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram has ended in a draw. Both teams put their 100% effort, but a result was not possible with Sri Lanka being on 260/6 in their second innings at the end of Day 5 play.
Earlier in the game, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to have a bat first. Some excellent batting performances from Angelo Mathews (199 runs), Kusal Mendis (54 runs), and Dinesh Chandimal (66 runs) ensured that the visitors post 397 runs in their first innings. For Bangladesh, off-spinner Nayeem Hasan was the pick of bowlers as he scalped six wickets.
The home side gave a strong reply in their first innings, as they went on to score 465/10 with the bat. Openers, Mahmudul Hasan Joy (58 runs) and Tamim Iqbal (133 runs) gave a perfect start to their team. Sri Lanka managed to scalp some quick wickets. However, senior batter Mushfiqur Rahim (105 runs) and the wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das (88 runs) ensured that the home side posts a huge total of 465 runs in 170.1 overs.
For Sri Lanka, Kasun Rajitha was impressive as he scalped a total of four wickets, Asitha Fernando (three wickets), Lasith Embuldeniya (one wicket), and Dhananjaya de Silva (one wicket) were the other successful bowlers for the visitors.
Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne scored an impressive fifty in the second innings
Bangladesh bowlers made a strong comeback during the second innings as they reduced the visitors to 39/2. However, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne (52 runs) along with batter Kusal Mendis (48 runs) ensured that the Sri Lanka side do not get into any kind of trouble.
Some decent contributions from De Silva (33 runs), Chandimal (39*), and the wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella (61*) showed some grit with the bat and ensured that the first Test match between the two teams ended in a draw. For Bangladesh, spinner Taijul Islam (four wickets) and veteran Shakib Al Hasan (one wicket) were the wicket-takers. Veteran batter Mathews was adjudged player of the match for his excellent knock in the first innings.
With the first Test match ending in a draw, the focus will now shift to the second Test match slated to be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on May 23 (Monday).
