Half the league stage of the LPL has come to an end. It was time for a match between the Colombo Kings and the Jaffna Stallions. The former won the toss and opted to bowl first. Both the teams have been playing some terrific cricket and the Stallions were yet to lose a match in this edition.

The powerplay was a bad one for the batting side. They ended with a score of 39/1 which is below par in T20 cricket. They scored very slowly till the ninth over and when they tried to accelerate, they kept losing wickets. None of the top-order batsmen were able to convert their starts into big innings.

If not for Wanindu Hasaranga, they would’ve been restricted to a way smaller total. He played an innings of 41 runs off just 23 deliveries. His knock included seven boundaries and a solitary six. He helped his team reach a total of 148 at the end of their 20 overs. Qais Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers as he dismissed three of the top four batsmen from the Jaffna side.

Dinesh Chandimal’s unbeaten knock ends Stallions winning streak

Chasing 149 was never going to be a very tough task for a strong Kings line-up. They started off well scoring 50 runs in the first six overs. Though they lost a couple of wickets everything seemed under control. Hasaranga was once again at the center of the action as he took both these wickets.

However, Dinesh Chandimal held his ground firm. He knew that he was the senior pro and it was his duty to take his team safely home. He did his job terrifically as he finished with a score of 68* off just 51 deliveries. His knock included seven boundaries and two sixes.

Angelo Mathews and Andre Russel played small cameos to guide their team to an easy victory. The latter showed his power by smashing three sixes in his 20-ball 32. They finished the game in 19.2 overs to hand themselves a six-wicket win. The Stallions would be disappointed by both their batting and bowling performance on the day. They are the top side and would definitely look to improve in their upcoming games.
