After the embarrassing loss against the Warriors, the Jamaica Tallawahs were up against the Trinbago Knight Riders for the second game in Florida. The Tallawahs ended up losing even this game, making it two in a row now while the Knights won their second consecutive game. On a small ground where we usually witness high scores, the Tallawahs only managed to put up a mediocre total on the board.

Although the Knights started the chase slowly, they gained momentum in the last 10 overs of the innings. Colin Munro and the Bravo brothers helped their team get the better of the Tallawahs. This encounter went down till the last ball of the game and left the audience on the edge of their seats. The Trinbago Knight Riders have now added another two points to their tally to move up to the second spot on the points table.

Two men show for the Tallawahs

The entire batting innings of Jamaica Tallawahs was just dictated by two men. Glenn Philips and David Miller together scored about 83.5 per cent of the team’s total. Further, there were 11 extras that were conceded in the innings which means the other batsmen only scored about 10 per cent of the total. The Knights’ bowled Khary Pierre was on fire at the start of things picking up two wickets in his first two overs. He dismissed both Kennar Lewis and Steven Taylor.

Soon, Ross Taylor (7 runs off 14 balls) also got out after all the struggle in the middle. But then, David Miller, who has had an on and off tournament thus far joined Glenn Philips in the middle. This duo went on to add 112 runs on the board without losing any wickets. While Philips got out after scoring 80 off 55 balls, Miller was at his usual destructive best. The left-hander remained unbeaten on 72 runs off only 34 balls as the Tallawahs put up 182 runs on the board for the loss of 5 wickets. Some contributions from the other batsmen could have easily ensured that the team got past 200. But, that wasn’t to be the case, at least this time around.

A nerve wrecking chase

Chasing this target, the Trinbago Knight Riders didn’t get off to an ideal start. They lost 3 wickets in the first 6 overs. While Narine was dismissed for a duck, Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum got out after scoring 2 and 8 runs respectively. The onus of putting the innings back on track lied on the shoulders of Colin Munro and Darren Bravo. These two have succeeded in doing the job up to a certain extent. They added 107 runs in about 10 overs after starting off rather slowly.

The team’s score was 78 after 12 overs and the momentum started shifting the Knights’ way after this over. The dup added 56 runs in the next four overs as both these men reached their half centuries. Darren Bravo was dismissed by Imad Wasim as soon as he got to his 50. Even after all these runs were scored, the Knights still needed 45 runs from the last three overs.

Then came the onslaught from the elder Bravo. DJ Bravo smashed 3 sixes in the 18th over and 2 more in the 19th. He almost sealed the game with 7 runs needed off the last over. But, there was yet another twist in the story. Oshane bowled an unbelievable last over. He gave away just 1 run off the first 4 balls and also picked up the wicket of DJ Bravo (36 off 11 balls). But, he faltered in the last two balls of the over and the Knights registered a 6-wicket win as Javon Searles hit a four off the last ball of the innings.

Twitterati was thrilled with this nail-biting finish and the Knights were applauded for their efforts. The Knight Riders’ owner Shah Rukh Khan seemed to be elated after this win.
