Twitter Reactions: England 8 down with just 107 on board: The 5th Test of the Investec Ashes 2015 had little importance over the fact that Australian opener Chris Rogers and skipper Michael Clarke will never walk out in the baggy greens. For the Aussies it was about pride, giving their skipper a fitting farewell and saving some nose after sinking 3-1 down at the end of 4 Tests.
Australia did just that with their first innings, most batsmen showed a determined effort to not let go off the chance and made sure they had 481 on the board before the 10th man took the long walk back. This gave Mitchell Johnson & Co. a license to go out with a full throttle attack strategy; as one- they had nothing to lose, two- they had scored enough to not lose the Test. It started with English skipper Cook’s dismissal when Nathan Lyon clean bowled him and triggered a collapse we have so often seen in this particular Ashes.
Siddle who was given this game in place of injured Josh Hazlewood made sure he split the crack into an opening after Cook departed; he first go Lyth and then Bell. When Ian Bell got out at 46-3, England looked in trouble but very few would have expected them to tumble as quickly as they did, as in a matter of 13 overs they scored another 46 runs and lost 5 wickets.
