‘Carnage’ is not the word that could be used to describe the way England batted today. England piled on a mammoth 444/3 in an epic show of gruesome batting.

England opener Alex Hales led the rampage scoring 171 runs in his 122 ball display of thorough entertainment. There were no signs of any discomfort. Hales toyed with the bowlers, playing them out like amateurs. Batting was at its extreme.

Eoin Morgan’s decision to bat first proved to be a success. The start was brisk and Pakistan had their only cherishable moment in the 6th over when Roy miscued a pull shot and edged one behind to the keeper. That’s it. This was the only time when there were smiles on the Pakistani faces.

Joe Root combined with Hales and both began pummeling the bowler left right and centre. Nothing seemed correct for the Men in Green. The Pakistan bowlers gave away runs generous amounts. Both added 248 runs for the second wicket to set the stage for the Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler to continue the rampage. Their attacking batting meant England raced past the 200 run mark inside 30 overs and 250 inside the next five overs.

Hales and Root departed in quick successions soon. But, there was no reason to calm down for the Pakistanis. Morgan and Buttler treated them even more ruthless approach. Buttler, in particular, didn’t a while to get going and raced his half century – the fastest century hit by any Englishmen in ODI.

Sixes and fours flew uncontrollably as both tonked the ball like baseball players.

Runs kept flowing and England quickly went past the decorated 400 runs mark. This was only the second 2nd time England had breached past the 400 run mark. The previous occasion came against New Zealand in 2015.

Soon, the captain-wicket keeper duo threatened the highest team total in ODIs. And, they achieved it eventually after a tense final over.

Pakistan bowlers went off the field with livid bruises. The fielders looked mullered. Right from the start till the end, they seemed to be pathetic in the outfield. Even the players, who carry a good reputation as fielders began floundering. Bad fielding affected the team like a virus. Nothing was going in their way today.
