When the Test series between England and West Indies had commenced, little did the cricket fraternity know that the series would be so evenly contested. The visitors showed some real fight to take things down to the final Test as it served as the series decider. In the final Test, they were bundled out for a paltry 123 in their first innings, and many believed that they were back to their recent usual self.

But a spirited fightback from the Windies, something that they have done during the course of the series, saw the English side take only a narrow lead in the first innings. With an effort of restricting the hosts for 194 in their first innings, team Windies knew they still had it in them to make a match out of this game. But things did not turn out to be heading their way since then.

A brilliant bowling performance from England ensured that the visitors could not pile on runs, as they did at Edgbaston in the previous Test. The hosts surely did their homework right to not repeat the horrors of the second Test. It was a certain James Anderson who proved to be all the difference between the two sides in the match.

Anderson, who reached his milestone number 500 wickets in Test cricket in the first innings, scalped a seven-wicket haul to halt the Windies spirit. Windies could only muster 177 in their second innings. As has been the story of the series, it was Shai Hope who held the Windies innings together. Had their not been a fighting 62 from Shai Hope, the innings would have got over earlier than it actually it.

With a low score in the second innings, the England team had a target of just over hundred to overhaul. After losing Alastair Cook cheaply, Mark Stoneman and Tom Westley added an unbeaten 72 run stand to ensure a 9 wicket win for England.
