Twitter Reactions: England give away the advantage despite Rory Burns and Joe Root’s efforts

Rain greeted the fans on the third day of the fourth Test between England and Australia. Almost an entire session was washed out right at the start. Then, towards the end, bad light stopped play. In between, it was all about the batting heroics from Rory Burns and Joe Root. Australia didn’t take too long to send the nightwatchman Craig Overton back to the pavilion.

In the very first over that was bowled, Josh Hazlewood scalped his wicket. The England skipper walked in next and played with a lot of responsibility. Along with Rory Burns, he added 141 runs and both of them looked extremely good. Both of them offered great resistance and truly tested the patience of the Australian bowlers. At Tea, the Brits were in a really good position. However, all these efforts went in vain once the final session began.

Josh Hazlewood bowls a match-turning spell in the final session

Josh Hazlewood struck like a thunder in the final session of play. He caused several troubles to the English batsmen and even bagged three more wickets in that session. It first started with the dismissal of Rory Burns in the 65th over of the innings. The bowler managed to find his outside edge when he was batting on 81. Steve Smith took a comfortable catch at slips. However, this wicket belonged to Pat Cummins as much as it did to Hazlewood.

From one end, Pat kept things extremely tight and build up some great pressure on the batsman. In his following over, Josh Hazlewood struck again. This time, it was the big fish Joe Root who was dismissed. The England captain was rapped on the back leg, plumb in front and gone LBW for 71 runs. Moreover, the experiment of Jason Roy didn’t really work out. Josh Hazlewood was the man yet again who got the better of him for 22 runs.

At stumps, England finished at 200/5 with Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow still out in the middle. Twitterati was in awe of Josh Hazlewood’s bowling efforts in this innings. Fans enjoyed the batting displays from Joe Root and Rory Burns. However, they were disappointed that England threw the advantage away in the final session.
