Momentum was on a rollercoaster ride in the second T20I between West Indies and England. There were some phenomenal performances from both camps but the Three Lions eventually walked away with a stunning one-run win, leveling the five-match series 2-1. Moeen Ali starred for the visitors as his all-round heroics pushed the Caribbean side on the back foot. Akeal Hosein was another all-rounder who made a mark in the game.

Earlier in the match, West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Openers Tom Banton and Jason Roy played some delightful shots in the powerplay overs as Englnd got off to a fine start. While James Vince got dismissed for four, Moeen Ali played a brilliant cameo of 31 runs. A quickfire 27 from Chris Jordon meant the Three Lions managed 171/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

As far as West Indies are concerned, Jason Holder, who scalped a match-winning four-fer in the previous contest, bowled another stellar spell and took a couple of wickets. While Fabian Allen also dismissed two batters, he gave away 50 runs from his quota of four overs. Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein bowled a brilliant spell, conceding just 15 runs in three overs alongside dismissing Sam Billings.

West Indies’ lower-order came to the party

With a challenging target on the board, West Indies needed a steady start which they didn’t get. Openers Brandon King and Shai Hope couldn’t trouble the scorers as West Indies lost two wickets inside six runs. While Nicholas Pooran and Darren Bravo did get starts, they were dismissed for 24 and 23 respectively.

Skipper Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder could only manage one apiece as the hosts found themselves reeling at 65/7. At this point, England’s victory seemed a mere formality. However, there was still a twist left in the table. Romario Shepherd joined forces with Akeal Hosein and the duo added some spice in the contest.

They played some delightful shots all over the park and added 72 runs for the ninth wicket. While Shepherd slammed a 28-ball 44, Hosein also scored as many runs but off just 16 deliveries. In fact, West Indies scored 27 runs in the last over when they needed 29. However, their effort eventually went in vain as Eoin Morgan’s men won by one runs, squaring the series 1-1.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to England’s triumph:
