The India v South Africa series was framed to be all about spin and how ably the batsmen are able to tackle them. But very few batsmen have actually been able to get going in the Test series. While a couple of Indian batsmen have always got them the required runs no South African except AB de Villiers could confidently get bat to ball and once he got out for a duck at Nagpur there was no resistance whatsoever for the Indian spin trio.
Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra ran through the Protea batting while they could just put up 79 on the board. Though this should have been acknowledged as one of the greatest performance by the spinners the outside world saw the other side to it. Most Australians and players from that part of the world where it is pace that rules and spinners have little to no contribution to make in the match have criticized the pitch calling it not good for Test cricket to being diabolical.
While it remains a fact that the pitch has a lot to offer for the tweakers and that makes the life of the batsmen that much more difficult but on a wicket where the Indian’s could score 215, South Africa getting out for just 79 has more to do a than just the pitch. No South African batsmen had any clue for the way they should deal with Ashwin’s off-spin or Jadeja’s accurate left-arm spin and it is just for the inability of their batsmen against world class spin on a turning track that was best exposed today.
Here are the Twitter Reactions:
This wicket in #Nagpur can't be good for test cricket, 25 wkts in 142 overs. #INDvSA

This wicket is diabolical!! 9 legitimate wicket chances in the first hour with 3 plays and misses every over! #day2 #minefield #INDvSA

How disappointing it is to see the quality of Test Cricket reduced to what we are witnessing #INDvsSA @StarSportsIndia #justnotcricket

Baffles me why our great game needs to tamper with conditions in favour for results. Amazing quality teams #letitbe @StarSportsIndia

Decisive feet movement is imperative on this pitch and that's always easier if you're in good form. Impossible to find form on this. #IndvSA

I'm afraid South Africa's great overseas record will end in Nagpur. If it doesn't we will have seen something exceptional.

Only two ways to score runs vs spin on this pitch–a bad ball or an adventurous shot. Indian spinners won't bowl bad balls. #IndvSA

Kohli played that shot just so he could say, "No demons in the Nagpur pitch, we played silly shots" in the presser. Good thinking. #INDvSA
