Royal Challengers Bangalore have taken a massive leap in the IPL 2022 points table following a 16-run win over Delhi Capitals. It wasn’t really a comprehensive win for the Faf du Plessis-led side as some loopholes in the team were exposed. Nonetheless, Dinesh Karthik once again came to the rescue and slammed a fiery half-century. Josh Hazlewood was the side’s standout performer with the ball, scalping three wickets.

Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. RCB suffered a top-order collapse with the trio of Faf du Plessis, Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli were dismissed cheaply. Kohli’s dismissal, in fact, was nothing but a bonus for DC as the talismanic batter was run-out at a personal score of 12. The repair was then done by the dashing Glenn Maxwell.

Dinesh Karthik plays yet another sensational knock

Regardless of the sensitivity of the situation, Maxwell went after the bowlers from the outset and played some delightful shots all over the park. He brought up his maiden half-century of the season and was eventually dismissed for a 34-ball 55. The baton was then passed onto the evergreen Dinesh Karthik, who played yet another destructive knock.

The 36-year-old was watchful at the start and shifted gears in the end overs. He brought up his maiden fifty of the season and remained unbeaten on 66 off 34 balls. He received substantial support from Shahbaz Ahmed, who scored 32 off 21 balls. As a result, RCB posted 189/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, DC got off to a flying start with openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw adding 50 runs inside the first five overs. While Shaw was dismissed after scoring 16, Warner brought up yet another fifty. He eventually fell prey to Wanindu Hasaranga after scoring 66 off just 38 balls.

While Mitchell Marsh, who scored 14 off 24 balls, endured a hard time on his DC debut, Rishabh Pant scored a counterattacking 34 off 17 deliveries. Pant’s dismissal proved to be the turning point of the game as DC lost momentum afterwards. While Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel played some big shots towards the end, the Capitals were eventually restricted to 173/7 , losing the contest by 16 runs. RCB are now third in the points table with eight points.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to RCB’s triumph:
