Twitter Reactions: Fakhar Zaman becomes the first Pakistan batsman to score an ODI double ton
He remained unbeaten on 210 in the end as Pakistan posted 399 runs in 50 overs.
Fakhar Zaman has taken a special liking to Zimbabwe‘s bowlers in the ongoing five-match ODI series. Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo witnessed a historic knock from the left-hander in the fourth game as he became the first ever Pakistani batsman to score a double century in the limited-overs format. He literally hammered the bowlers of the home side in every possible and reached the milestone in the 47th over of the innings.
After opting to bat first, the onus was on him and Imam-ul-Haq to get Pakistan off to a good start and the duo didn’t disappoint. Fakhar, after getting his eye in, started opening his arms freely with gaps open in the field. The powerplay was productive for the visitors but it was important for them to continue and play a big inning. It seemed that he had made up his mind to score big on the day and gave nothing away.
Every loosed delivery was peppered rather blunted by Fakhar brutally as the bowlers didn’t have an answer to his assault. They tried to different field settings to him but he was in such a sublime form that he every shot he used to play was going into the gaps. He reached his ton with more than 20 overs to go and there was certainly a golden chance for him to make the most of this opportunity.
There was no contest from the opposition whatsoever and Fakhar Zaman pounced on them with no mercy. In the 42nd over, his partner was dismissed by Wellington Masakadza but the dynamic Pakistani continued to play in the same vein. He shuffled across the crease beautifully during his wonderful knock and played some unbelievable strokes to leave the crowd at the stadium stunned.
The 28-year-old was not perturbed by the approaching milestone and made sure that the run-rate of the team never dipped. He first trumped Saeed Anwar to become the highest scorer for Pakistan in the ODIs and then reached the dream 200-run mark with a swat on the off-side in the 47th over. Everyone in the crowd and his teammates in the dressing room were in the awe of him for his scintillating batting display.
Twitterati was also filled with joy as they welcomed the sixth batsman in the 200-run club in the One-Day Internationals. The fans were thrilled with his knock as he eventually went on to score 210 runs with Pakistan fell agonisingly short of 400 by just one run.
