Prior to the 2018 Asia Cup, left-handed batsman Fakhar Zaman was deemed to be one of the brute forceS to reckon with. The 28-year-old was absolutely stupendous in Pakistan’s T20I and ODI series in Zimbabwe. During the limited-overs series, the North-West Frontier Province-born cricketer became the first batsman from the nation to notch a double-century in the 50-overs format.
However, he hasn’t had the best of campaigns in the ongoing multi-nation tournament. He looked impressive in the first match against Hong Kong but was nipped out by right-arm off-break bowler Ehsan Khan. In the next match against India, he failed to open his account with the willow after nine deliveries and tried to take on speedster Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Mehidy picks up Fakhar
He mistimed the shot and Zaman had to perish for a duck. Mujeeb Ur Rahman accounted for his wicket in the match against Afghanistan. The batsman attempted a sweep shot only to be trapped plumb in front of the stumps. He tried to curb his natural instincts and put his head down in the Men in Green’s second Super 4 match against Rohit Sharma’s men.
He played out quite a few dot balls and then just when he started to get the measure of the bowling and the conditions, Kuldeep Yadav nipped him out. Pakistan is currently playing their last Super 4 match against Bangladesh, which is also a virtual semi-final and Sarfraz’s men needed Fakhar to arrest his slump and put his best foot forward for the crucial encounter.
However, he flattered to deceive yet again and could score only a solitary run. In the first over, he danced down the track to Mehidy Hasan Miraz and tried to hit his way out of trouble. However, the ball didn’t find the meat of his bat and Rubel Hossain took a stupendous catch at mid-on. Following yet another failure, Twitter didn’t leave any stone unturned in ridiculing the out-of-form batter.
Here is how Twitter reacted
Fakhar Zaman Missed His Double Century By Just 199 Runs. Hey Don't Worry. He Will Score A Triple Century Against Zimbabwe & Ireland. 😬😂😬 #FakharZaman #PAKvBAN #BANvPAK

Fauji opener Fakhar zaman has shown zero interests in Asia cup. We need to start finding a better opener than him.

As Fakhar Zaman is out of form, perhaps they should have tried Shan Masood today. Currently hard to believe this is Pakistan's home ground! #PAKvBAN

@iramizraja are you convinced of Fakhar Zaman batting technique? Playing with closed face of bat with unorthodox bat trajectory

Least runs by Pakistani openers in a 5 or more teams tournament
43 – Shahid Afridi (5 innings) in ICC World Cup 1999
